LEED Home Renovation

This residential renovation was the first LEED Certified single family home in New York City. An extensive renovation completely transformed this 1939 Colonial into a groundbreaking new home. The contemporary design uses numerous features to promote energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. Natural ventilation and daylighting are achieved through a central atrium stair core are a feature of this NYYSERDA Energy Star Certified Home. Much of the house is clad with natural stone quarried on-site with sustainable cedar covering the rest. Environmental responsibility was further achieved through the use of FSC Certified and Recovered Hardwoods, low VOC finishes and materials, efficient lighting, fixtures, insulation and mechanical systems.

A Home Grows Bigger but its Footprint is Smaller - 12/11/2008 - The Riverdale Press

“The architect, who does a great deal of work in the Fieldston Historic District, and his family now live in one of the first single-family homes in New York City to earn the LEED Silver rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. Nationwide, 449 homes have been given the same distinction, according to the council’s Web site.”

Green Bliss in Riverdale - 3/2009 - New York House Magazine

“What makes the home special from a green perspective, is that most LEED buildings are newly constructed. Goldblum says despite that trend, he pushed on with the green renovations because he believes in reusing and reclaiming materials. ‘The [LEED] standard is for new homes, which is, in a way, perverse. Isn’t it more green to just reuse what you already have?’”
