Mid-Century Modern House

Flowing spaces, clean lines, and the now-nostalgic vibe driving recent fascination with midcentury-Modern design are all qualities celebrated by this house. Sited on a comfortably large suburban lot near the Hudson River, the ranch house was completely gutted and renovated in a style that celebrated its midcentury heritage in a contemporary way.

  • The exterior was mostly restored, with new oversized picture windows and a new entry canopy and bluestone bench announcing the front door. We completely reimagined the interior experience of this house, placing the living room, entry foyer, dining room, and kitchen along a single angled axis that emphasizes openness and flow of space.

The foyer is an intimate cocoon: with oak door/walls and ceiling and blackened steel it introduces the materials palette of the house. The living room uses the steel for cabinets and a gas-fired hearth. The dining room is a lofty cathedral-ceilinged space with a cork accent wall.

The house also has a private gym, a festive playroom, a comfortable primary bedroom suite and three additional bedrooms. The interior design by Robyn Singer-Dror celebrates the clients’ love of vivid colors and intense patterns.
