Brick Industry Gold Award 2019 - Soho Apartment Building

We are so honored to announce that Building Studio Architects received a Gold Award in the 2019 Brick Industry Awards in Architecture for our work on our 54 Macdougal Street apartment building.

This new SoHo condominium apartment building uses traditional brick decorative techniques in a contemporary way, fitting in seamlessly with its historic tenement block.

Dogtooths, corbels, reveals and rustications, radiused corners and varied bonds use shadow and texture to give the façade depth and detail.  Steel balconies, canopy and planters give the façade further texture and detail, casting the filigree of shadows like the fire escapes nearby.

We are grateful for the design excellence that this award recognizes. At the same time we at Building Studio Architects recognize and thank the many essential workers in our city.  Included in this group are the builders working on essential projects or performing emergency work, putting themselves out there  for the betterment of our city and its residents. We all owe them a debt of gratitude: along with all the PPE, safe working conditions, and sufficient pay, to start to compensate them for their efforts on our behalf.
