Colonial Revival Restoration and Expansion

Built in 1928 by Julius Gregory, this stucco and stone Colonial Revival historic home possessed warmth, detail and richness in a relatively modest 3,500-sq.ft. package.  Our clients, avid athletes and swimmers, sought both a meticulously detailed home renovation and to expand it with a new private pool and home spa to suit their needs.

The house itself underwent a thorough, careful historic preservation of its stone and stucco exterior and detailed interiors, while creating an interior renovation including a new, larger kitchen, and adding a new yoga room in a former garage. The entire basement was also renovated to create exercise/play space.  The second floor, tight under the steeply pitched roof, was nearly fully re-planned, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and a skylit gallery.

  • A new in-ground pool was created in the rear, with a custom, contemporary cabana/pool house wing, creating a new private recreational area.  The cabana creates a green courtyard in front of the yoga room for quiet contemplation, with a glass connector to the kitchen.  Passing through this new connection one enters the pool patio, paved in Pennsylvania bluestone, with a new barbecue and canvas awning.

The cabana itself is built from materials complementing the historic home: locally quarried fieldstone recalls the prominent chimneys, while textured cement stucco matches the house itself.  The cabana houses a custom Italian aspen-wood sauna, two generous bathrooms, and a curved. tiered steam room.
