DDC Library Updates
Building Studio Architects has been working with New York City’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) on library updates throughout Brooklyn and Queens. This series of facility upgrades and renovations has been ongoing for almost a decade along with continued improvements at the Staten Island Children’s Museum. The work varies in scope from façade and envelope repairs to ADA improvements, resiliency, and mechanical systems upgrades. All work for the libraries involves coordination with the city agencies, end users, consultants and constructability teams to preserve and extend the lives of these critical community resources. The same issues of accessibility and building maintenance caused the work at the children’s museum.

Caring for New York City’s libraries is a big job, with three separate systems and with thirty-nine buildings across five boroughs, the task can seem endless. We have worked closely with Goldman Copeland engineers to provide an array of services to maintain the exteriors of now seven library buildings. Roofs, integration of upgraded air conditioning, facades, windows and window coverings, all elements of the scope for these projects. By working closely with Goldman Copeland we can coordinate tightly and prevent errors, and strive to provide greater value to the city by promoting holistic solutions.
