Upper West Side Duplex

This project, completed in 2012, is a fine example of this kind of intensive, detail-oriented design.

Atop an Art Deco apartment building, three small apartments are fused into a comfortable family home.  Surrounded by terraces, the 3,000 sf duplex includes four bedrooms, formal and casual living areas, and a large eat-in kitchen.  The design of the apartment enhances and celebrates its connection to the outdoors, and to the stunning views of Central Park and the Upper West Side that surround it.  The light-filled home is rendered in a simple, clean, contemporary style, with minimal color and abundant use of natural materials.

The apartment design included the usual level of focus and detail that we bring to our work: integration of audio-visual systems, coordination with decorators and engineers, and close cooperation with building management to gain permission to significantly modify the space were all essential to the final condition of this lovely, spacious home.

This spacious terrace is filled with potted plants and comfortable seating centered around a short table, and the entire patio overlooks the Upper West Side and Central Park West.
This geometrically satisfying hallway has a steep stairway on the left and white bookshelves doubling as the wall on the right which lead to the main sitting room.
This white and naturally lit dining room centers around an oval wooden table and features splashes of bright turquoise on the chairs and wall-art.
The eating area, sitting right off of the kitchen, has rust orange seating complimented by the white walls, tables, and columns making up the room.
Looking through the kitchen into the separated eating area, you see dark sleek hardwood cabinetry, floor, and wall well-contrasted by the pure white countertops and higher level cabinetry and paint jobs.
This family room continues the rust orange and white color scheme, and it has two seating options leading the way to a double-window door that peeks into the outdoor terrace.
This naturally-lit family room features a grey-blue couch as well as hardwood furniture and pink accents creating a calming and open space.
This master bedroom has bright orange bedding atop a king bed complimented by neutral carpeting, walls, and curtains.
