Shore Hill Apartments Renovation of Public Spaces Complete

Our work at Shore Hill Apartments in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn is a recently completed renovation of public spaces.

This 400,000 sq.ft. housing complex for seniors, was built in 1977 and is now owned and managed by the Jonathan Rose Companies. Two 14-story brick and concrete apartment towers are linked by a one-story community center. Offering dramatic views of New York Harbor, the development provides 560 units for low-income elderly tenants, supported by HUD Section 8 funding.

Led by project manager, Spenser Ngo, we renovated the interior common spaces, including lobbies, corridors, solaria, staff offices, and the large community room and pantry. We also upgraded and reprogrammed the lifestyle spaces, a major amenity of the complex: the game room, media room, gym, with spaces for cards, mahjong, ping pong, movies and other entertainment, along with staff support spaces. Engaging with residents, staff, and management for community buy-in, our renovations refreshed and updated these areas.

The entire renovation was guided by Rose Companies’ commitment to create communities of opportunity that support their tenants’ aging in place. Special attention was paid to the use of environmentally sensitive materials, including bamboo wall and ceiling panels, recycled-content bases and ceiling tiles, and no-VOC paints and adhesives. Extensive art and plantings further animate the buildings for the residents.
